Are higher taxes really that bad?

I have no problem with higher taxes provided the money goes to things that benefit people and our country. Things such as education, health care, public safety, roads, parks, etc. The people opposed to more taxes are living in a selfish little bubble. Their lives are fine so screw everyone else. The "if you can't afford it then you are a lazy-*ss" attitude is really arrogant. God forbid we help our fellow man. It only makes our country better but they don't care about that. Private health insurance is a luxury more and more Americans are unable to afford but I don't hear any of these anti-health care reform people commenting on that. Probably because they are drinking the "socialism" punch served up by Big Insurance, right? It's pretty sad.
