Did i save his life?

Ok so my dad, dog , and I were driving in the car. Suddenly sombody ran a red light and my dad stopped short. I was being stupid and didn't wear my seatbelt and flung foward. I was also holding my dog, so when we stopped i quickly pushed my dog down, so if i were to fly out of the car my dog would be safe. My dad put his arm out so i didn't go anywhere but jerked foward. I think i saved his life( i was 9 at the time) and my friends say that i didn't what do you think?
